Hi, I'm David, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this counseling team, bringing with me years of experience in human services. My journey began as a Protestant minister in South Carolina, where I gained a deep understanding of couples' issues, grief, and life's many challenges. As my career evolved, I made the transition into clinical practice, earning my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, a pivotal moment that marked a successful shift in my career path. I've now been in clinical practice for several years and I am fully licensed for independent practice in Utah.
My counseling approach is rooted in Person-Centered Therapy, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and a strong therapeutic relationship as the foundation for growth and healing. Within that relationship, I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and EMDR to help clients better understand themselves, overcome obstacles, and process painful experiences. I believe therapy should be collaborative, individualized, and paced according to each client's needs, strengths, and goals. I am also Gottman Level 1 trained for couples therapy.
Beyond the office, you'll often find me seeking solace in nature. Whether it's mountain biking in the rugged terrain or hiking through serene landscapes, I find immense joy and peace in the great outdoors. Family is at the center of my life, and I've been married to my wife La'ai for three decades. Together, we're accompanied by our three young adult children, who joined us in our relocation to the Salt Lake area in early 2024.
I warmly extend an invitation to embark on a therapeutic journey of self-discovery with me. My mission is to help you find the peace, joy, love, and fulfillment your heart desires. Schedule an appointment today, and together, let's take the first step towards a brighter tomorrow.
