Janell is a Master of Social Work intern at the University of Utah, building on a solid foundation from her Bachelor of Social Work degree, also from the University of Utah.  In her practicum experiences, Janell has supported clients across the lifespan—from teenagers to adults—who are navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Janell approaches her work with dedication to providing compassionate, evidence-informed, and empowering care that honors each client’s strengths and dignity. She employs a strengths-based and culturally responsive approach—utilizing evidence-based practices—to help clients identify triggers, build coping mechanisms, set healthy boundaries, and process overwhelming emotions. Janell recognizes that each client’s journey is unique, and she strives to cultivate resilience, autonomy, and increased joy, peace, and control in their lives.

Janell uses a systems-based framework recognizing the societal expectations, gender-based discrimination, and inequities that impact the mental health and well-being of cisgender and transgender women alike. Janell has co‑facilitated both a women’s empowerment group and a women’s art therapy group, fostering creative and safe environments where participants can reclaim their strength and find their voices. Additionally, she has advocated for lower‑income individuals and families, drawing on systems‑based knowledge to help overcome structural barriers to well‑being.

Taking the first step toward therapy can be intimidating, but the client does not have to do it alone. The goal is to create a safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive space where the client can be truly seen and supported. If you are ready, we can begin this journey together. If you have any questions or would like to see if this is a good fit, please reach out.
