Grounding Technique

A simple practice for bringing attention back to the present moment and the body when emotions feel overwhelming.

A grounding technique is a simple practice for bringing attention back to the present moment and the body. Examples include slowly naming things you can see, hear, and touch; pressing your feet into the floor; or holding something cold. Grounding does not solve the underlying issue, but it can help calm the body enough to think and choose.
