Cognitive Restructuring

A CBT skill for noticing unhelpful thoughts and updating them with more accurate, balanced ones.

Cognitive restructuring is a core skill from CBT. It involves slowing down to notice the thoughts that come up around a difficult situation, checking those thoughts against the evidence of what is actually happening, and trying out more accurate or balanced ways of looking at the situation. Done with practice, this can ease anxious spirals, harsh self-talk, and other unhelpful patterns.
