Panic Attack

A sudden surge of intense fear or discomfort that peaks quickly and includes strong physical sensations.

A panic attack is a sudden surge of intense fear or discomfort that usually peaks within minutes. It often includes strong body sensations such as a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, or a sense that something terrible is about to happen. Panic attacks can feel frightening but are not dangerous on their own. Therapy can help by reducing fear of the sensations themselves and teaching skills for the moment.
