Somatic Experiencing
A body-oriented approach to working with stress and trauma by paying close attention to physical sensations and the nervous system.
Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach to working with stress and trauma. The therapist helps the client gently notice physical sensations—tension, breath, heart rate, posture—and supports the nervous system in completing the responses that may have been interrupted during overwhelming experiences. The pace is slow and careful, with the goal of building tolerance for sensation rather than pushing through it.
