Trauma-Informed Care
An overall approach to care that recognizes how common trauma is and prioritizes safety, choice, and respect.
Trauma-informed care is less a single technique and more an overall stance. It recognizes that many people have experienced something hard or overwhelming, and it builds care that prioritizes physical and emotional safety, predictability, choice, and respect. In practice, this can look like clear communication about what to expect in sessions, going at the client's pace, and being thoughtful about anything that could feel re-traumatizing.
